Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings got back in the win column on Friday night with a 4-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen.
Zach Wytinck (1G-1A) and Caiden Daley (1G-1A) lead the way for the Wheat Kings who rebounded with a win after a tough 3-2 overtime loss to Edmonton earlier in the week.
The win was a much needed bright spot in an emotional week that saw the Wheat Kings trade both Kale Clague and team Captain Tanner Kaspick.
Logan Thompson made 28 saves for the win while Nick Schneider was busy, facing 40 shots in the Calgary net. He would turn aside 36 in the losing effort.
Linden McCorrister and Connor Gutenberg rounded out the scoring for Brandon who move to 19-3-1-1 on home ice.
Luka Burzan and Chase Hartje made their Wheat Kings debut after being acquired from the Moose Jaw Warriors. Both players played a regular shift, with Burzan collecting an assist and a +2 rating. Hartje finished even with one shot on goal.
The win gives Brandon 7 of a possible 8 points through four games on this home stand. The Wheat Kings wrap up the home portion of their January schedule on Saturday night when the Medicine Hat Tigers come to town. (7:30 puck drop at Westman Place)
