Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings drafted two players in the CHL Import Draft, and they both happen to have been drafted by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights.
Swedish Defenceman Erik Brannstrom, 18, and Czech goaltender Jiri Patera, 19, were picked in the first and second round respectively at the CHL Import Draft on Thursday.
Brannstrom played for the HV71 Jonkoping in the Swedish Hockey League, and had two goals and 15 points in 43 games with the team.
He was also taken 15th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Golden Knights.
Patera is from Prague, Czech Republic, but played last year for the Ceder Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL.
In 34 games with the Roughriders, Patera had a 3.24 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
Patera was picked in the sixth round in 2017 by the Golden Knights.
With the selections, the Wheat Kings currently have three imports on their protected list.
Martin Kaut, who was the Wheat Kings first round pick in 2017, remains Brandon property.
Meanwhile former Wheat Kings player Daniel Bukac was picked up the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL in the second round of the draft.
He was released by the team on Wednesday.
