Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings made a pair of roster moves on Thursday afternoon.
18-year-old forward Rylan Bettens has been traded to the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft.
In other news, the club announced that 18-year-old defenseman Ty Ettinger has been "designated for assignment." That leaves the club with eight defenseman and thirteen forwards on the active roster.
"When we looked at it [the roster moves], we needed to create some openings for our young guys," said Wheat Kings GM Grant Armstrong. "We think the young guys are pushing hard and we believe that the growth of our group is through the young nucleus. We need to grow together and we envision this as the right path."
Meanwhile, Ty Lewis and European prospect Martin Kaut were sent to the AHL’s Colorado Eagles by the Colorado Avalanche. The Vegas Golden Knights also sent prospect Erik Brannstrom to the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.
Tickets are available for Saturday’s home game vs the Hurricanes online and at the Keystone Centre Box Office. For those that can’t make the game, the QCountry broadcast will hit the air at 7:00pm.
