Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings played shorthanded on Saturday night in a 6-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades.
No, they didn’t spend a lot of time in the penalty box, but rather they found themselves down to 16 skaters after an injury to Stelio Mattheos and a 17 minutes in penalties to Linden McCorrister early in the 3rd period.
Despite the short bench, the Wheat Kings came back from down 3-1 midway through the 2nd period to knock off their East Division rivals.
Cole Reinhard (2G-1A) lead the way for the Wheat Kings while Gunnar Wegleitner (2A) and Evan Weinger (1G-1A) also had multi-point nights.
Brandon got 33 saves from Logan Thompson while Tyler Brown turned aside 19 shots in the Blades net.
The win keeps the Wheat Kings ahead of the Blades in the race for the post-season. Brandon is now four points up on the Regina Pats and 10 points ahead of both the Blades and the Prince Albert Raiders.
Brandon heads to Swift Current on Saturday night to take on the Broncos. (7:00 MB time on QCountry Radio.)
