Virden, MB (CKLQ) – A hot February continued for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, and it clinched the team a playoff spot with four games left to go.
The Wolverines beat the Virden Oil Capitals 4-2 on Friday to clinch the final remaining playoff spot in the MJHL.
It’s the first time the Wolverines will be going to the playoffs since making it back in 2016, when the team lost in Survivor Series to the Swan Valley Stampeders.
Jake Bestul scored twice in the win, both in the third period, while goaltender Isaac Labelle stopped 37 of 39 shots for the win.
The Wolverines are the second team in Westman to make the playoffs, with Virden clinching before.
The Oil Capitals are sitting in a tie for fourth place with the Selkirk Steelers.
Meanwhile, the Wolverines are hoping to keep on climbing up the standings, as they are three points back of the Dauphin kings for 7th in the league.
