Sixty-five-year-old-man charged with impaired driving

Wawanesa, MB (CKLQ) - A 65-year-old man from Norfolk-Treherne has been arrested after a single-vehicle collision which resulted in the vehicle catching fire.

On Friday evening, the vehicle crashed into the ditch on Highway 18, 2.5 kilometres south of Highway 2 junction. A witness helped the driver get out of the burning car.

The driver was allegedly impaired when he was helped out and tried to flee the scene when emergency services arrived.

Police found out the man was not supposed to be driving.

He was not injured in the accident and was taken to the Brandon Correctional Centre.

He has been charged with impaired driving and refusing to take a breathalyzer test.

The police are still investigating and are trying to determine the information for the vehicle.

Wawanesa, MB (CKLQ) - There has been a report of a car that caught fire on Highway #18.

The accident happened south of the Highway #2 yesterday afternoon.

The report says a single-vehicle accident, when the vehicle ended up in the ditch and caught on fire.
