A heartbreaking end to the Canada West season for the second-ranked Brandon University women’s volleyball team.
Shanlee McLennan had 10 kills and 13 digs for the Lady ‘Cats, who fell in four sets against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday night to lose the best-of-three quarter-final series in two straight matches.
Set scores were 29-31, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19.
"They came to play and we kind of took them for granted I guess that they would maybe just roll over and die because we had the better record, but everyone’s good in the CIS now. Lesson to be learned from here on in," an emotional BU captain Kellie Baker told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Baker had eight kills and 36 assists in her final conference match while fellow fifth-year Alexis Loewen added six kills and seven blocks for Brandon.
"We just were fighting to get even and fighting to get even and eventually our resiliency just kind of wore out. An incredible group of athletes that worked their butt off. We didn’t get the results that hard work usually earns," said coach Lee Carter.
Meaghan Robertson recorded nine kills and four blocks for Brandon, who finished second in the standings while posting the program’s best-ever regular season record at 17-5.
