Officials are estimating around 100,000 people showed up to the fair

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - It wasn't a major decline, but the attendance drop will cause organizers of the 2018 Manitoba Summer Fair to contemplate what worked and what didn't.

Provincial Exhibition officials are anticipating a small drop in attendance when they get final numbers for the Summer Fair.

They will add attendance for the I Love the 90's concert which was at Westoba Place on Thursday night.

Officials are estimating around 100,000 fair-goers showed up to the fair, only about a 1,000 person drop from the year before.

General Manager Ron Kristjansson says he thinks the minor drop might've been the lack of the Musical Ride this time around.

"We were lucky to get the ride that year because it was part of Canada 150," said Kristjansson. "It really brought in a lot of people for those first couple of nights."

Even with the minor drop, officials say the event was a success and there is no reason to worry.

"From year to year, we see a fluctuating figure moving about 2 to 3 per cent," said Kristjansson. "If it ever moves more or less than that, then we'll raise our eyebrows."

Now Provincial Exhibition officials are planning for the next event, which is the Manitoba Ag Ex, planned during the month of October.
