– The Brandon Wheat Kings are 0-for-3 on their road trip after a 7-4 loss to the Calgary Hitmen. Brandon fell behind 3-0 in the first period, rallied to enter the third period tied 3-3 but then surrendered four third period goals to the Hitmen. Ryley Lindgren led the Wheat Kings offensively with a goal and two assists. The loss leaves Brandon two points behind first-place Swift Current in the East Division. – The Virden Oil Capitals extended their winning streak to four straight by doubling the OCN Blizzard 4-2. Cody Nelson, Ben Williams, Rob Newton and Jake Dudar did the goal scoring for the Caps, who remain two points back of the Dauphin Kings for top spot in the MJHL’s Sher-Wood Division. Elsewhere, Dauphin handed the Neepawa Natives their 11th straight loss, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines dropped a 5-2 decision against the Winnipeg Blues and the Selkirk Steelers got past the Steinbach Pistons 3-2 for their 20th consecutive win to set a new franchise record and tie the all-time league record.
– Duncan Campbell’s hat-trick powered the Brandon ‘AAA’ Midget Wheat Kings to a 10-4 win over the Yellowhead Chiefs. Tanner Kaspick added four assists for the Wheat Kings, who won their sixth straight game and sit one point back of the Winnipeg Wild for top spot in the overall standings. Morgan Geekie got a goal and an assist for the Chiefs, who lost their sixth straight and sit two points back of the eighth and final playoff spot.
– Devin Setoguchi scored twice to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a much-needed 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Zach Bogosian and Michael Frolik also scored while Andrew Ladd picked up two assists for the Jets, who moved to within six points of the Canucks for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Winnipeg has won seven of the nine games they’ve played under new head coach Paul Maurice.
– The Brandon University men’s volleyball team continued their chase for a playoff spot by knocking off the #1 ranked Trinity Western Spartans in straight sets. Sam Tuivai had 12 kills and 10 digs for the ninth-ranked Bobcats, who improved to 9-10 and sit in a three-way tie for sixth-place in Canada West with the top seven making the post-season. On the women’s side, the second-ranked Lady ‘Cats got nine kills from Victoria Dakin in a straight sets loss against the fourth-ranked Spartans to slip from second to third-place in the standings. – The Brandon University men’s basketball has failed to snap their four-year Canada West playoff drought. The Bobcats got a game-high 22 points from Emerick Ravier in an 86-80 loss to the Trinity Western Spartans Friday night, officially ended their post-season hopes in the Prairie Division. Kenonte Ramsey scored 13 points for BU, who saw their record slip to 5-12 on the season. On the women’s side, the Lady ‘Cats dropped a 57-46 decision against the Spartans. Cassie Cooke collected 15 points for Brandon, who fell to 5-12.
