Brandon, MB (CKLQ)- In light of the recent disappearance of two riders on thin ice this week, the RCMP are reminding everyone on the basics of snowmobile safety.

The force is reminding riders to check weather conditions before you leave, ride in groups, advise people of your route, use warms and dry protective clothing.

And, when possible avoid crossing bodies of water.  If you do, cross only when certain of ice thickness, and wear a life jacket over outer clothing

Last year, six Manitobans died in snowmobile collisions.

Two people went missing Tuesday night when their machine reportedly went through thin ice on the Winnipeg River near Sagkeeng.
