Raiders Snap the BWK Win Streak

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 5-2 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night at Westoba Place.

Coming off a tough loss on Tuesday night, the Raiders were looking for redemption three days after the fact. Just 3:35 into the game, Eric Pearce opened the scoring for Prince Albert. He slipped past a check at the Brandon line and slipped his 3rd of the year through the wickets of Jiri Patera.

In the 2nd the Raiders again found the back of the net before the ice had time to freeze. Sean Montgomery notched his 12th of the year just 1:27 into the period to open up a 2-0 lead. With an assist on the goal, Brett Leason extended his point-scoring streak to 29 games.

Prince Albert added three more goals in a span of seven minutes to open up a 5-0 lead.

With just twelve seconds left in the period, Connor Gutenberg snapped a five-period Raiders shutout streak vs the Wheat Kings. Gutenberg took a great feed from Baron Thompson and beat Donovan Buskey along the ice to give Brandon a shade of momentum heading into the third period.

The Wheat Kings outshot the Raiders 13-6 in the third period and got a lone goal from Ben McCartney but that was as close as they would get.

The Raiders move to 27-1-0-1 on the season while the Wheat Kings four-game winning streak was snapped at four games.

Raiders goalie Donovan Buskey stopped 24 shots for his 5th win of the season while Jiri Patera allowed five goals on 41 shots to drop to 11-7-2-2 on the year.

The Wheat Kings will have to have a short memory as they head to Prince Albert on Saturday to complete the weekend home-in-home series. (7:00 on QCountry Radio)
