Brandon, MB (CKLQ) -The truck convoy headed to Ottawa to protest federal energy policy made a stop in Virden and drove past Brandon today.

The convoy started in Red Deer Thursday, and will join up with a similar eastern convoy for rallies at at Parliament Hill next week.

Spokesman Dana Flick says the convoy has seen companies and individuals join in for portions of the run, but there's a core group of about 50 trucks in the convoy.

Along the route today, groups of supporters greeted the trucks.

The protest movement  hopes to press the federal government on energy policy. Specific concerns are the carbon tax, and legislation they feel will continue to hamper oil and gas development in Canada.
