Rules may be applied to tenants

Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - When it comes to growing and smoking pot in shared living spaces, should rules be implemented prior to cannabis becoming legalized?

Lawyers specializing in property law think homeowner groups should have certain regulations in place.

Provinces, municipalities and condo boards are being left to make their own rules around recreational pot use.

Edmonton lawyer Robert Noce says the most common sources of complaints in shared properties will likely be the smell of smoke and potential mold from growing cannabis.

He recommends an absolute prohibition on smoking, vaping and growing of marijuana in units.

But Ottawa lawyer Rodrigue Escayola says the greater common good must be balanced with property rights.
