Brandon, MB (CKLQ) - Brandon's Festival of the arts kicks off today with a busy schedule of performances.
Festival President William Alexander has been involved with the event since 1970s when he was appointed to the staff at the Brandon School of music.
He says the festival is a good opportunity for young performers in the area, "Their teachers set it up so they can play in a performance setting whereby they're listened to by their peers and parents etcetera."
Alexander says the performances are critiqued, "They play in front of an adjudicator and the adjudicator expresses an opinion as to how well they played the selected piece and how well they are progressing as a pianist or violinist or whatever."
He adds, "We encourage everybody to come out and enjoy the sessions and enjoy what people have been working hard on in terms of perfecting their performance skills and they're going to be exhibiting their performance skills at all of the sessions during the festival."
The Brandon Festival of Arts starts today with the speech art classes at Knox United Church.
