Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – After dropping the first set, the Brandon Bobcats women’s volleyball team came back with three straight sets to upset the UBC Thunderbirds 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-15).
The win is the Bobcats’ first in Canada West play.
Sophomore Michelle Egger found her groove late in the game and sealed the deal by putting up three aces in the Bobcats’ match-ending 6-1 run.
Egger finished with 10 kills and seven digs while fifth-year outside Nikala Majewski had 16 kills and 15 digs along with two blocks.
Bobcats Coach Lee Carter took a moment to acknowledge the importance of the win following Saturday’s match.
The win moves Brandon’s record to 1-3 while UBC falls to 2-4 in conference play.
Meanwhile in the men’s game, the Bobcats edged the UBC Thunderbirds in a hard-fought four-set showdown to stay undefeated.
The set scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-22.
Seth Friesen had 15 kills for the second-ranked Bobcats, while Elliott Viles was next with 13 kills for BU.
The Bobcats are a perfect 4-and-0 and head out on the road this coming weekend.
Both teams head on the road next weekend to Calgary to play Mount Royal.
