Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Fans of Brandon Bobcats basketball teams had to stay a little longer than anticipated, but it was worth it as the Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team won in double overtime over rivals Winnipeg Wesmen, 109-107.
It was a come from behind victory for the Bobcats, who came back from 10 points down midway through the fourth quarter to force overtime.
It was a Pookie Saunders layup with nine seconds left that forced the game to go to overtime.
In the second overtime, the Bobcats were up by two, when a three point shot from Narcisse Ambanza rimmed out, giving Brandon their second win of the season.
Brandon was led by Tyvon Cooper who had 27 points, while Ambanza scored 29 points in the loss.
Meanwhile earlier in the evening, the women’s team fell behind early, and could never come back as they lost to the Wesmen 87-63.
Winnipeg went out to 24-6 lead after the first quarter, and kept the lead throughout the game, even as Brandon got within six points at one point.
Faith Hezekiah scored 26 points in the win, while Brandon was led by Hailey Maas with 18 points.
Both teams will take on the Wesmen once again on Saturday, but this time in Winnipeg to conclude their home and home series.
