The Brandon University basketball teams came out on the losing end against the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday night at the Healthy Living Centre.
Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats, who dropped a 73-69 decision.
The BU men’s team tied up the game with 57 seconds to go, but couldn’t connect on a pair of chances to win the contest.
"We had two good looks to win the game. We just didn’t knock them down. It seems that’s the way it’s going this year. We coach and play our butt off and it’s just not transferring into W’s right now," coach Gil Cheung told CKLQ’s Tyler Crayston.
Ilarion Bonhomme scored 16 points while Jordan Reaves recorded 12 points for Brandon.
On the women’s side, Cassie Cooke collected a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady ‘Cats, who were outscored 21-8 in the second-quarter and fell 64-62.
"There’s a lot of things that we don’t execute in the first and second quarter that we need to focus on every game, not just some games," said Cooke. "At the beginning of the season we did very well on fast breaks, towards the end of the season we haven’t been doing it as well, which is why we aren’t getting to the foul line and aren’t finding our flow."
Kaela Cranston collected 16 points while Stephanie Haynes had 13 points.
The BU basketball teams have identical 5-14 records going into their final home contests of the regular season Saturday night.
Game times are 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the HLC.
