Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – For the first time since 2015, the Brandon Bobcats men’s volleyball team has advanced in the Canada West playoffs.
The Bobcats defeated the Calgary Dinos in four sets, to sweep the best of three series in two games.
The Bobcats faced a little bit of trouble early on, as for the first time since November 3, the dropped a set on home court.
The Dinos won the first set 25-12.
The Bobcats easily bounced back though, winning the second and third set, 25-15 and 25-19.
But the Dinos came back and made it tough for Brandon, taking them to the wire and even giving themselves set point multiple times during the sequence.
At the end, it was Mason Metcalf kill that put the Bobcats in the semi-finals, and won the fourth set 29-27.
Seth Friesen led the way for the Bobcats with 17 kills, 2 blocks and 1 ace.
Brandon will now wait for the winner of the Mount Royal-Saskatchewan series to wrap up to find who they will be playing.
The winner, will head to Brandon next week.
Mount Royal won on Friday night 3-0 to take a 1-0 series lead.
Game 1 in Brandon will be on Thursday at 7:00 p.m, with Friday for game 2, and if necessary Game 3 on Saturday, both games at the same times.
