Upcoming Christmas Events

As we head into the weekend, here are some things to keep in mind:

Movie Night at the East End Community Centre is from 7 - 10 tonight featuring Santa Paws & Jingle All the Way. There'll be Free popcorn, plus canteen items for $1.00. Bring a blanket to sit on. Admission is a non-perishable food item for Samaritan House.

The United Way's Christmas Tree Auction for kids is tonight at Houston's! We'll start decorating at 5:30 and you can start bidding at 6:15! All of the money raised goes to the United Way and stays right here in our community. And the trees go to local families in need.  StarFM's Trent B will host the evening! 

Shoal Lake is holding their kickoff to Christmas today, starting at 4. There will be pictures with Santa, a bon fire, sleigh rides & the tree lighting.

Tomorrow is the Mall in the Hall in the Hamiota Sports Complex. There'll be Crafts, baking, toys, and much more. Proceeds to the Hamiota Christmas Cheer Board.

In Brandon tomorrow there's a A Family Fun Day at the Keystone Centre Exhibition Hall with Santa, kids karaoke, stuffed balloons, and more from 10 - 8. Children cost $5, adults are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or unwrapped toy for the Christmas Cheer Board hamper.

The Samaritan House Christmas Fundraiser will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 6 - 10 at the Park Community Centre. Food, games, prizes and much more. Admission is $5 or a non perishable food item.

Do you have the fastest crawler in Westman? The Wheat King's Diaper Derby could be your opportunity to prove it!  The Derby happens at Tuesday's Wheatties game during 1st intermission.  Register at Li'l Bit Baby by 5pm Saturday. For  info call 725-4412.

The Second Annual Westman Home & Gift Christmas Gift Show will be at the Keystone Centre Saturday, from 10 - 6, and Sunday from 10 - 5. You'll find Baking, jewelery, quilting and more. The Samaritan House will be collecting donations at the door and any food item people wish to bring. No door fee.

The Virden Legion Santa Brunch is Saturday from 8 - 1am in the Assembly Hall. Santa, silent auction, door prize, and a Christmas video for the kids and much more. Admission by donation.

Orthodox Parish Church is hosting a pre-Christmas Bake Sale and Tea on Saturday, from 2:00 - 3:30 in the Rossburn Community Hall basement. Christmas baking, Ukrainian food, Chinese auction!

If you like live music, you might want to head to Brandon City Hall Sunday.  The city is celebrating Christmas by putting on a free concert from the Brandon Community Orchestra. Doors open at 12:30, the concert begins at 1:30 with a sing-a-long to follow.

On Sunday the Souris District Arts Council is sponsoring A Christmas Extravaganza, an evening of Christmas music, in the Souris Glenwood Community Hall at 7:30pm.  Early bird tickets are $16/adults and $10/students or $35 for the family package at Plaza Petals in Souris or 483-2001.

Westman Jeep Association's 6th Annual 4 x 4 Christmas Convoy in support of the Brandon and area Traditional Christmas Dinner, will be held on Sunday, at A & W on the Trans Canada Highway at 11am. Brandon Westman Christmas Cheer Registry Inc have partnered with Brandon veterinarians to help ease the strain on the holiday budget of less fortunate Manitobans and their much-loved pets. Drop off unopened tins or bags of cat and dog food at any Brandon vet clinic until December 14th and it will be given to families in need. For more information 728-2292.

Westman and Area Traditional Christmas Dinner, one day only, December 25th from 12noon to 6pm in the UCT Pavilion, Keystone Centre. Donations can be dropped off at Upper city Square in the Keystone Centre or call 728-7987 to have them picked up. Needed this year are turkeys, hams, new unwrapped toys and cash donations.
